Christine Baranski, née le 2 mai 1952 à Buffalo dans l'Etat de New York est une actrice et productrice américaine.
Sa mère se nomme Virginia Mazurowski et son père Lucien Baranski. Il a édité un journal en langue polonaise. Elle a des origines polonaises, ses grands-parents étaient des acteurs dans le théâtre polonais.
Elle a étudié à la Villa Maria Academy, après avoir étudié à Juilliard, elle était un membre du Drama Division's Group 3.
Sa passion pour la comédie commençe au lycée et se poursuit dans l'école d’art dramatique de New York, Juilliard. A sa sortie, elle joue quelques productions locales mais se revèle avec le succès à Broadway de The Real Thing de Tom Stoppard. Cette année-là, elle gagne un Tony Award et un Drama Desk Award pour sa prestation. Elle remporte un second Tony Award en 1989 pour Rumors.
En 2004, elle joue aux côtés de Ray Romano dans Bienvenue à Mooseport, dans le film oscarisé en 2003, Chicago.
Après avoir passé 7 ans dans le rôle de Diane Lockhart dans The Good Wife, elle est à la tête de son spin-off, The Good Fight.
En 2009 et 2010, elle gagne l'Emmy Award de la meilleure actrice dans un second rôle dans une série comique pour son rôle dans The Big Bang Theory.
En janvier 2022, on retrouve l'actrice sur le petit écran dans la série dramatique The Gilded Age, où elle interprète l'un des rôles principaux, celui d'Agnes Van Rhijn.
Elle s'est mariée avec Matthew Cowles le 15 octobre 1983 et a deux enfants : Isabel, née en 1984 et Lily, en 1987. Elle a perdu son mari en 2014.
