Stephen McHattie, né le 3 février 1947 à Antigonish, Nova Scotia, est un acteur canadien.
Il commence le théâtre à l'âge de 16 ans. A l'âge de 19 ans, il déménage à New York pour étudier à L’Académie Américaine des arts dramatiques, d'où il sort diplômé deux ans plus tard.
La carrière de Stephen commence dans les années 70 avec de petits apparitions dans des films et séries télévisées.
En 1976, Stephen joue le rôle de James Dean dans le film télévisé James Dean : Portrait of a Friend.
En 1995, il remporte le Gemini Award de la meilleure performance par un acteur dans un rôle principal dans un programme dramatique ou une mini-série pour Life with Billy. La même année, on le voit dans deux épisodes de X-Files.
De 1998 à 2001, Stephen joue un rôle récurent dans la série Cold Squad, brigade spéciale.
Sa carrière n'a de cesse de s'épanouir et on retrouve Stephen dans de nombreux films, courts-métrages et séries télévisées.
En 2006, il remporte le Genie Award du meilleur acteur dans un second rôle pour The Rocket.
En 2010, il est choisi pour incarner le rôle du "méchant", le Révérend Ed Driscoll, dans la série Haven.
Il obtient ensuite un rôle régulier dans la série XIII, de 2011 et 2012, puis dans The Strain de 2014 à 2015.
En 2017, il incarne P.T. Westmorland dans la dernière saison de la série Orphan Black.
Divorcé de l'actrice Meg Foster, il est aujourd'hui marié à l’actrice Lisa Houle, avec qui il a 3 enfants.
