Épisode Purgatory S01E01 - Wynonna Earp Saison 1

Alors que Wynonna Earp est sur le trajet pour retourner à Purgatory pour les funérailles de son oncle, un souvenir la frappe.

Elle se revoit lorsque sa maison s’est faite attaquer alors que ses sœurs Willa et Waverly, et elle n’étaient que des enfants. Leur père et Wynonna tentent de protéger Willa de cette attaque, des vitres se brisent et les ravisseurs se rapprochent.

Wynonna sort de ses pensées lorsque le bus dans lequel elle se trouve s’arrête. Une passagère descend du bus contre les conseils de Wynonna et le conducteur sort voir ce qu’il se passe avec le véhicule. Lorsqu’ils entendent des bruits étranges, ils veulent repartir et ne pas s’attarder dans les parages mais Wynonna ne peut se résoudre à laisser la femme seule dehors alors elle part à sa recherche.

Wynonna essaie alors de retrouver Kiersten mais la seule chose qu’elle retrouvera sera son corps sans vie. Quelque chose qu’elle ne peut voir s’en prend alors à elle violemment mais elle n’arrive pas à se défendre jusqu’à temps que son téléphone sonne lorsque Waverly, sa sœur lui envoie un message lui souhaitant un joyeux anniversaire. A partir de ce moment, elle arrive à se défendre et à se battre et plante une barre de fer dans l’œil de l’homme avant de rejoindre la route pour rentrer à Purgatory.

Wynonna arrive en retard aux funérailles de son oncle, qui se déroulent dans un jardin, et se fait remarquer par tout le monde, ils ne semblent pas ravis de sa venue. Lors de sa discussion avec Gus, la veuve, qui est surprise de la voir de retour, Wynonna essaie de savoir si le corps de son oncle était intact mais Gus s’énerve et lui dit de laisser tomber, de laisser partir Curtis tranquillement.

Dans la forêt, le Sheriff Nedley et l’Agent Dolls sont autour du corps de Kiersten et aperçoivent des pas ; la fille n’est pas morte ici et se demandent où est le second corps puisque deux filles sont sorties du bus. Nedley explique à l’agent qu’il y a énormément de coyotes dans les parages ce qui pourraient expliquer les marques sur le corps. Cependant, Dolls a une autre théorie et demande au shériff de dire aux locaux ce qu’il veut, une fuite qui a mal tourné, une attaque de coyote, mais pas la vérité.

Wynonna se rend au bar de Shorty et discute avec ce dernier à propos de l’incident de Kiertsten. Shorty est surpris d’entendre qu’elle aussi est descendue du bus mais n’a récolté aucune égratignure.
Une ancienne connaissance à elle vient la charrier sur son absence et sa famille mais un dénommé Champ lui sauve la mise avant que la tension ne monte.

Wynonna fait semblant de le séduire pour qu’ils se retrouvent seuls à seuls pour lui soutirer des informations concernant la mort de son oncle : c’est lui qui a découvert le corps. Il résiste quelques instants à ses menaces mais finit par lui dire ce qu’il sait, il s’avère qu’il est mort dans les terres qui appartiennent à Wynonna. Elle lui dit qu’il va l’accompagner avant que la petite amie de Champ débarque pour le libérer des griffes de Wynonna. Cette petite-amie n’est autre que Waverly, la petite sœur de Wynonna.

Malcolm prépare quelque chose contre les Earp et demande si les cadeaux d’anniversaires sont prêts. Carl arrive et quand Malcolm apprend qu’il a parlé avec Wynonna au Shorty il se met en colère car cela met en péril son plan. Carl essaie de se défendre mais Malcolm lui arrache la langue à mains nues avant de l’écraser au sol.

Une fois sorties de l’appartement de Champ, Waverly demande à Wynonna pourquoi elle ne l’a pas prévenue de son retour, ça faisait 3 ans qu’elle ne l’avait pas vue. Mais Wynonna n’en avait pas l’intention et le décès de Curtis et le mail qu’elle a reçu de sa part ont changé la donne. Waverly comprend alors très vite que la malédiction des Earp recommence mais Wynonna ne veut pas en entendre parler même si Waverly est prête à se battre à ses côtés s’il le faut. Elles se chamaillent à propos de la malédiction lorsque l’Agent Dolls interpelle Wynonna : il sait qu’elle était dans les bois et veut lui parler.

Dolls commence alors à poser des questions à Wynonna qui lui dit qu’elle n’a rien à voir avec la mort de Kiersten. Il tente de l’intimider avec la taille impressionnante de son casier judiciaire mais elle ne se laisse pas démonter et il finit par lui tendre un dossier. Elle découvre alors qu’il fait partie de la division des Badges Noirs, qui s’occupe de clarifier les activités inexplicables dans la région. Ils ne voient pas beaucoup de survivants à ce genre d’activité donc il voudrait bien qu’elle lui dise tout ce qu’elle sait, mais elle n’est pas coopérative. Il finit par abandonner mais lui laisse tout de même sa carte. Avant de partir, il lui avoue que Wyatt Earp, son arrière-arrière-grand-père était le meilleur tireur de tous les temps.

Waverly descend et tente de tirer les vers du nez de Wynonna concernant l’attitude de sa sœur mais cette dernière se braque et décide de se rendre à l’endroit où ils habitaient avant.

Arrivée dans leur ancienne maison, Wynonna fait le tour de la salle en se remémorant à nouveau la nuit où ils se sont faits attaquer. Elle voit notamment sa grande sœur, Willa se faire emporter par les Revenants qui les attaquent, la jeune Wynonna a alors conscience que seul le pistolet de Wyatt pourra les arrêter.

Après cette vision et après avoir trouvé un mot de bienvenue à son attention, Wynonna décide de partir à la rechercher de cette fameuse arme. Elle retourne donc à la maison de Gus pour charger son pick-up de matériel avant que Gus ne l’interrompe. Cette dernière est inquiète pour Wynonna, elle la trouve maniaque et paranoïaque à propos de la façon dont Curtis est mort. Pour le bien de Wynonna mais aussi de Waverly, elle lui offre un billet sans retour pour Athènes en guise de cadeau d’anniversaire.

Alors que Wynonna sort d’un puis où elle vient de récupérer l’arme de Wyatt, l’Agent Dolls l’attend. Il est venu pour lui demander d’intégrer la Brigade des Badge Noirs, il lui faut quelqu’un qui connaisse l’endroit. Comme elle ne semble pas volontaire à l’idée, il lui dit qu’il recrutera Waverly à la place. En colère, Wynonna lui dit qu’elle n’est pas la bonne Earp, que ça aurait du être Willa.

Dans une nouvelle vision de Wynonna, on voit qu’elle est la personne qui a tué Ward Earp, son père.

Le long de la route pour rentrer, Wynonna essaie de tirer avec l’arme de Wyatt mais loupe sa cible, pourtant pas si loin.

En cherchant sa sœur au Shorty’s, Wynonna découvre un grand mur reprenant tous les éléments de la malédiction des Earp. C’est à ce moment qu’elle se rend vraiment compte que Waverly est prête pour l’aider mais Wynonna ne veut pas qu’elle s’implique, c’est trop dangereux pour elle. L’arme de Wyatt a déjà mis en l’air la vie de Wynonna lorsqu’elle a tiré sur son père, elle ne veut pas que la vie de Waverly soit fichue aussi.

Par la suite, Wynonna est au bar lorsque Doc vient lui parler. Elle ne sait pas qui il est mais ils parlent tous les deux de Wyatt et du Peacemaker, sa fameuse arme.

Wynonna rentre chez Gus pour lui dire au revoir et c’est à ce moment qu’elle apprend que Waverly a été kidnappée. Elle retrouve alors l’Agent Dolls pour lui en faire part, et il lui fait comprendre qui l’a emmené. Wynonna décide alors de se battre contre ces Revenants mais ce sera sans Dolls.

Elle se rend alors là où tout a commencé pour sauver sa sœur : à la maison des Earp. Lorsqu’elle arrive, Waverly est pendue, les pieds touchant à peine un tabouret. C’est alors que Malcolm et ses hommes se montrent : ils veulent le Peacemaker. Wynonna accepte et le place sur la moto, attendant que l’un d’eux aille le récupérer avant de faire exploser la moto. Elle retient alors sa sœur avant de s’occuper de Malcolm et de reprendre le Peacemaker qui est au sol. Elle tire deux balles, une pour couper la corde qui retient sa sœur, et l’autre dans la tête de Malcolm qui s’effondre et se fait aspirer. Wynonna est l’héritière de la malédiction. Dolls vient finalement à leur secours et les emmène loin de la maison.

Waverly et Wynonna parlent calmement de ce qu’il s’est passé et la plus jeune veut s’assurer que Wynonna reste pour de bon cette fois, elle lui assure que oui. Les filles sont interrompues par l’Agent Dolls qui veut parler à Wynonna maintenant qu’il est connu qu’elle est l’héritière. Dolls se rend compte qu’elle connaît plus de choses qu’eux sur la malédiction, notamment le fait que les Revenants ne peuvent partir de Purgatory et lui offre un badge. Elle est désormais un membre de la Division des Badges Noirs et peut former sa propre équipe.

On a bus

Woman : How did it go?

Wynonna : That bathroom's a crime against humanity. Trust me. Put down the coffee.

Woman : It's gone cold anyways. Never gone this long between hipster coffee shops.

Wynonna : First time out west? Next stop's mine.

Woman : You live here?

Wynonna : No, not anymore. Funeral. My uncle's.

Woman : I'm Kiersten. What'd you say your name was again?

Flashback

Earp House

Willa : There's so many of them! You said they can't attack the house!

Ward : They figured out how to get around the bedrock!

Willa : I got the gun, Daddy.

Wynonna : Let's close our eyes and sing Mama's lullaby. Just until the bad guys go away.

Waverly : Daddy!

End of flashback

Bus

Driver : Oh, Christ!

Kiersten : That's it, I'm gonna burst. No. Time to introduce Chestnut Latte to the badlands.

Wynonna : Kiersten… don't go out there.

Kiersten : Why?

Wynonna : It's dark.

Kiersten : Pretty and smart. We're gonna get along just fine.

Man : Did you hear that?

Woman : Yeah.

Man : Whoa!

Wood

Kiersten : Hello?

Bus

Wynonna : What's going on?

Driver : Sit down. Everyone, sit down. We're leaving.

Wynonna : I've heard this before.

Woman : Wolves?

Driver : Something's outside.

Wynonna : Yeah, a passenger! We have to do something!

Woman : Yeah, drive! Come on!

Wynonna : We can't just leave her!

Driver : You'd have to be nuts to go out there.

Woman : Let's go! Come on!

Wood

Wynonna : Assholes! Hey! If you hurt her, I'll kill you! Kiersten? Let her go! We're armed! Poorly. Oh, my god! Aaah! Ugh! Aaah! What do you want from me? Ugh! Head rush.

Road

Wynonna : Welcome home, Wynonna.

Woman on the phone : Where exactly?

Wynonna : Just outside the city limits.

Woman on the phone : And the cause again?

Wynonna : Maybe animal attack.

Woman on the phone : OK. And your name is?

Wynonna : My name? Nope.

Garden

Gus : Curtis was not a handsome man. When I first lay eyes on him at the cookout, I said to my sister, "Just how closely related are his parents? But he was loyal. Traits folk nowadays might find old-fashioned boring. Thing is, with Curtis, I was never bored. Not once.

House

Man : What are you doing here?

Gus : You're late, as usual.

Wynonna : I'm so sorry, Gus.

Gus : I thought you were in Spain.

Wynonna : Greece, when I heard. Listen, I know Purgatory's country and all, but is that legal to bury your husband in the garden?

Gus : Only thing Curtis loved more than me was his tomatoes. Who am I to separate soul mates? They said it was a stroke.

Wynonna : Bullshit! He was still tossing hay bales like a teenager.

Gus : Champ was with him, but he didn't see what happened.

Wynonna : Hardy "Rodeo Champ" Champ?

Gus : Yeah. He's a good kid.

Wynonna : Gus, when they found Curtis, was he still intact?

Gus : Wynonna!

Wynonna : I just want to find out what happened.

Gus : He died. Please, Wynonna, let it go. For once.

Wynonna : It was a really nice eulogy.

Wood

Sheriff Nedley : Runaway? Whore? Who knows what kind of trouble this girl got herself into? Agent Dolls : Spoken like a man who finds a lot of dead girls. And you've had three of 'em in the past six months. So you find… "Kiersten's" head yet?

Sheriff Nedley : Which agency did you say you were from?

Agent Dolls : See those skid marks? This isn't the kill site.

Sheriff Nedley : Driver said two of 'em got off the bus.

Agent Dolls : OK, so where's the other body? And these lacerations… defensive wounds?

Sheriff Nedley : Bite marks… from scavengers. We have an overpopulation of coyotes this summer. Winter will thin out the pack. You plan to be here that long, Mr ?

Agent Dolls : Dolls. Deputy Marshal Dolls. And I'll be here as long as it takes.

Sheriff Nedley : Well, then welcome to the bustling metropolis of Purgatory where nothing lives but cattle and cowboys.

Agent Dolls : And maybe… the occasional Greek goddess.

Sheriff Nedley : What'll I tell the locals happened out here?

Agent Dolls : Runaway hooker. Coyote attack. Anything but the truth, right?

Shorty’s

Shorty : Well, either I'm sucking fumes out of the back of Willie Nelson's tour bus or Wynonna Earp just walked into my bar.

Wynonna : Hey, Shorty. How's business?

Shorty : Mechanical bull broke a month ago. Chippendales' night was a bust. Not to mention this shit about a dead runaway. Rule number 1: You never get off the bus.

Wynonna : I did.

Shorty : You were there? Did you tell the cops?

Wynonna : I Phoned it in. Anonymously.

Shorty : Uh-huh

Wynonna : Two stints in juvie, a summer riding with the Banditos, and I'm still wanted for questioning in the Bleaker case. My relationship with law enforcement es un poco complicated.

Shorty : How about un poco of liquid courage?

Wynonna : Alright, just one, yeah. I gotta focus. I'm here for Gus, and Curtis. Somebody knows what really happened to my uncle.

Carl : Where have you been, Wynonna?

Wynonna : As far from here as I could get.

Carl: Lucky you. If I could leave Purgatory, I'd never come back. Why would Wyatt Earp choose to settle in this shithole?

Wynonna : My money's on the deep gene pool.

Carl: Well, maybe your great-great-grandpappy got a few lucky shots in at the OK Corral and fled before they found out he was a fraud. Didn't he marry a whore?

Wynonna : An actress.

Carl : Oh, oh, shit! She's probably the one who gave Doug Holliday the clap that done him in. Hahaha!

Wynonna : Doc! Doc Holliday, dumb-ass. And it was tuberculosis that killed him, you ignoramus.

Carl : This coming from the pair of tits so insane, so cursed?

Wynonna : What did you say?

Champ : Getting beat up by a girl again, Carl?

Wynonna : Champ! My hero.

Champ : Sweet.

Wynonna : Listen, uh, I was hoping I could talk to you about what happened to my uncle.

Champ : Bring those lips, we can, uh, "talk" all night long.

Wynonna : You didn't pay me a second glance in high school.

Champ : Hey, you were kind of a freak.

Wynonna : You have no idea.

Champ’s apartment

Wynonna : Well Shorty lets you stay above the bar, huh?

Champ : Yeah, I, uh got a key.

Wynonna : Oh it's impressive. Ooof. So, ummm… You ran ranch security with Curtis, but didn't bother to make his service?

Champ : Yeah, I, uh, … hate funerals.

Wynonna : Ugh! Tell me about it. Gus mentioned you were the one who found his body.

Champ : Yeah. Speaking of bodies…

Wynonna : Hmm?

Champ : Mad hot.

Wynonna : Alright, Champ.

Champ : Yeah. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea. Do you know what time it is?

Wynonna :Yeah. Time for you to tell me how Curtis died.

Champ : He… he just did!

Wynonna : Oh no. Don't make me get rough!

Champ : This ain't rough? Look, uh, I heard screaming and screaming, and I ran. Called the Sheriff. And when they found him, his head had been torn clean off!

Wynonna : Listen, you washed-up rodeo clown. Who did it? What did you see?

Malcolm : Haha! Oh, hey, Carl. I heard you talked to Wynonna at Shorty's. Brought up the Earp Curse.

Carl : I didn't mean nothing.

Malcolm : We can't have you running off your mouth before we get what we need. Can we, pal?

Carl : C'mon, Malcolm.

Malcolm : Hehe! If you can't hold your tongue… Oh I will. Now we stick to the plan, then we kill the girls. Got it? Got it?

Carl : Mm-hmm.

Street

Waverly : What are you doing in town? I mean, besides my boyfriend?

Wynonna : I wasn't gonna "do" anyone, least of all that man-child. I'm trying to find out what happened to Curtis. Oh, and you can do better.

Waverly : Small town, limited dating options.

Wynonna : Yeah. I remember.

Waverly : Hey! God!

Wynonna : Ow! What?

Waverly : It's been three years. God! Come here! You couldn't tell me you were coming?

Wynonna : I wasn't. Then, Uncle Curtis sent me an email.

Waverly : What? What did it say?

Wynonna : "They've caught up with me."

Waverly : I knew it wasn't a stroke. It's starting again, isn't it? We need that gun.

Wynonna : OK, I'm not doing this.

Waverly : Wyatt Earp's gun. Same one disappeared the night…

Wynonna : Told you, never talk about it!

Waverly : And I don't!

Wynonna : Good!

Waverly : Best advice you ever gave me. Well… only advice, really.

Wynonna : Hey, I was a kid! OK? I couldn't I couldn't look after myself, let alone

Waverly : What, your bratty little sister?

Wynonna : You know, it's about the only thing I've ever done right.

Waverly : Leaving me behind?

Wynonna : Yeah, it gave you a chance.

Waverly : Right Yeah, well, I'm not 6 anymore, OK? Look, I could help. We could fight - this thing, this curse together!

Wynonna : Waverly, there is no curse on…

Dolls : Wynonna Earp?

Wynonna : If my parole officer's asking, then no.

Dolls : Is there somewhere that we can go talk? We got your call. And I think that this belongs to you. So, you wanna tell me exactly what happened on that bus?

Gus House

Wynonna : Am I being charged with something? 'Cause, trust me, having to ride the bus is punishment enough.

Dolls : A girl is dead Ms. Earp.

Wynonna : I had nothing to do with that.

Dolls : I know. I spoke to the bus driver. He was scared. He said he heard something that spooked him, and that you and Kiersten were the only ones that fled the bus.

Wynonna : I'm sorry, I'm, uh…

Dolls : Drunk?

Wynonna : Lost. Are you FBI? I didn't quite recognize the badge.

Dolls : And you've seen a lot of them given your criminal record.

Wynonna : Juvenile record. And that's supposed to be sealed when an offender turns 18, and I'm 26…27.

Dolls : Happy birthday. By the way.

Wynonna : U.S. Marshals, huh? You don't have jurisdiction up here.

Dolls : Cross-border task force.

Wynonna : What's with the charcoal star?

Dolls : Good eye. Denotes the Black Badge Division.

Wynonna : Is that some kind of covert branch?

Dolls : We monitor specific activity that has recently flared up in this area.

Wynonna : What kind of activity?

Dolls : Unexplainable.

Wynonna : I either need way more or way less of this stuff, I'll tell ya.

Dolls : You know what I think, Earp? I think you saw what killed Kiersten.

Wynonna : Yeah. Coyote, a big one.

Dolls : Is that the story you're sticking with? Where'd your sister go?

Wyonna : You leave her out of this.

Dolls : I just want to thank her for my coffee. You see, the thing is, Wynonna, our division doesn't really see a lot of survivors, so any information that you have…

Wynonna : Yeah,

Dolls : ...on how you outran…

Wynonna : I got your card. Thanks.

Dolls : I'm sure you're getting this all the time, but is it like "Earp" as in ?

Wynonna :Good ole Wyatt. Yep. He was my great-great-grandfather.

Dolls : The greatest gunslinger that ever lived. You a good shot too?

Wynonna : I don't do guns. Couldn't hit a lawman at zero paces. Fortunately.

Waverly : He seems nice.

Wynonna : As a swift kick to the box.

Waverly : So your 27th birthday.

Wynonna : It doesn't mean anything, Waverly.

Waverly : Oh yeah? Then why do you look so spooked? Huh?

Wynonna : Tell Gus I'm taking the truck.

Waverly : What? Where are you going?!

Wynonna : Home.

Flashback

Earp House

Ward : They say Wyatt took down 77 outlaws with this gun.

Willa : And all those outlaws are resurrecting as revenants coming for us.

Ward : They won't rest until they gain freedom from their earthly prison.

Waverly : You'll stop them, Daddy!

Wynonna : You'll get 'em.

Ward : Willa is the eldest, the next Earp heir destined to inherit Wyatt's abilities. Because the only thing that can put these demons down again is you.

Willa : You said they can't attack the house!

Ward : They figured out how to get around the bedrock!

Waverly : What's happening?

Willa : I got the gun! There are so many of them!

Ward : There's seven of them!

Wynonna : Willa!

Ward : No!

Wynonna : Shotgun won't work. He needs Wyatt's gun. I won't let them hurt anyone.

Ward : Good. Because the only thing that can put these demons down again is you.

Wynonna : Waverly was right. We need that gun. And I'm talking to my truck.

Malcolm : Good news: she took the bait. She'll fetch it for us.

Gus House

Gus : Are you gonna ask to borrow my stuff? I noticed you already borrowed all my whiskey. I know Curtis may have stood for all that, but then, he was soft on you.

Wynonna : He was a good man, and he deserved better than what happened to him. Something took his head, Gus. Something or someone

Gus : Oh, Wynonna

Wynonna : I know who killed him, and I got a plan.

Gus : That's not what I meant. You got that wild look in your eyes. You're manic, paranoid. Probably off your meds, hm? What's next? More demons?

Wynonna : Yeah, I might be certifiable. Got the paperwork to prove it. But something awful is happening in Purgatory, and it has everything to do with my last name! Gus : You're not the only Earp in town. Waverly has worked so hard just to get out from under your shadow. I know it's your birthday so…

Wynonna : Don't worry about that.

Gus : Enough for a one-way ticket back to Athens.

Wynonna : So this is your gift for me?

Gus : And for your sister. I love you, Wynonna but you're as broken as they come.

Dolls : Hello, Earp. Thirsty?

Wynonna : No. This old well dried up a long time ago. Much like my tolerance for stalkers. No, really, are you following me?

Dolls : Happened to be driving by.

Wynonna : Well, if you wanted a date

Dolls : I don't.

Wynonna : Ouch.

Dolls : But I might be the one person that can help you.

Wynonna : Thanks, but I'm more of a make-everything-worse kind of gal.

Dolls : Gonna get worse. You think the thing that killed Kiersten is just gonna let you live?

Wynonna : Not if I'm already gone.

Dolls : Earp, I know what you know.

Wynonna : OK Well, you don't know me, Deputy. Talk to the locals, they'll tell you.

Dolls : Yeah, that you're mental, a bad seed.

Wynonna : Mm-hmm. Aw, you forgot scary good in bed. What do you want from me?!

Dolls : I need someone that knows the area, its people. I want you to join my squad. Work for the right side of the law for once.

Wynonna : You must be desperate.

Dolls : The situation's desperate.

Wynonna : OK. Well, I don't do authority, alright? These days, I barely do sober.

Dolls : Then I recruit Waverly. People in town rave about her.

Wynonna : I told you to leave her out of this!

Dolls : Clearly, I'm talking to the wrong sister.

Wynonna : Yeah, you're all talking to the wrong sister! They took the good one into the hills.

and slaughtered her!

Dolls : What was her name?

Wynonna : Willa. I saw what being law did to my father. Whatever you've heard getting deputized's what did him in.

Dolls : My bosses consider what's happening here in Purgatory urgent, and they will do whatever it takes to protect their interests.

Wynonna : Well, good for them.

Dolls : So, what did you go down an old dried-up well to get, Earp?

Wynonna : Don't follow me again. Had it up to here with surprises.

Flashback

Earp House

Waverly : Willa! You can't help! You aren't the heir!

Wynonna : Shotgun won't work. He needs Wyatt's gun.

Ward : No! No! No! No! No! Argh! Ugh!
