Geraldine James, née le 6 juillet 1950 en Angleterre est une actrice anglaise.
Elle a fait ses études à Downe House, une école indépendante pour filles située à Newbury, dans le Berkshire, et plus tard au Drama Centre London.
Geraldine a fait plusieurs apparitions au cinéma et à la télévision. Elle a fait ses débuts à la télévision, dans The Sweeney. Elle a été nommée quatre fois pour un BAFTA TV Award pour ses performances dans Dummy (1979), The Jewel in the Crown (1984), Band of Gold (1995) et The Sins (2000).
De 2017 à 2019, elle interprète le personnage de Marilla Cuthbert dans Anne with an "E". En 2019, elle rejoint le casting du film Downton Abbey où elle incarne Mary de Teck.
Elle est mariée à Joseph Blatchley depuis 1986. Ils ont un enfant, Elle.
Elle est officier de l'Ordre de l'Empire Anglais.
