Février 2017

French fans know you mainly for your role on The 100. Can you tell us how a simple appearance in season two became a recurring role in season three ?

You'll have to ask Jason Rothenberg for the answer to that one! I think the fans really responded to what went on with Murphy and Emori in the desert. I was lucky to be paired with Murphy who is such a fan favourite. Our interactions show a different side of him, and it grew from there.

You play Emori, a young woman rejected by her people because of her deformity and shows herself as very strong. Can you speak to us of her and what you appreciate about her ?

The amount of suffering she's been through could have turned her cold and emotionless. But instead she feels deeply and can still find joy and playfulness in life. I love that about her. Sometimes that playfulness comes out in violent ways, but it's still there, it hasn't died. If anything it's been emboldened by whatever her unusual childhood was like outside of normal society. I find her relationship with society fascinating. She resents it and longs for it.

Her line, " I would, yes I had any" in the episode 3x14 [in reply to Jaha, who tells her that she could correct her defect], remains engraved in the spirits of her fans who see Emori as a beautiful representation for those who suffer because of their physical appearance. What do you feel reading positive reactions of these fans ?

It warms me from my heart. I think embracing what makes us unique is one of the mentally healthiest things we can do. Plus our looks don't define us. They're always changing as we age anyway so we shouldn't get hung up on them.

Her relation with John Murphy [Richard Harmon] is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful of the series. However, things do not turn out as well as they could in season three. Can you tell us a bit of what awaits both characters in the next season ?

Murphy and Emori first off have to deal with what happened between him and Ontari, and the fact she took the chip. They have to decide what kind of path they're going to choose going forward. Both the grounders and arkadians are a lot more aware of them, so life as bandits will be a lot more difficult, but then again, joining society will be difficult too. Tough decisions. Plus there's a nuclear meltdown looming.

Murphy and Emori are considered like pariahs by their group but now they have to live with Skaikru. Do you think they can adapt themselves to their lifestyle ?

That's the challenge isn't it ? Murphy threw out the "How to Behave In Normal Society" handbook long ago, Emori never even got a copy. We'll see.

Murphy and Emori are very often likened to Bonnie and Clyde. Do you like this comparison ?

Love it, what's not to love? Except that Bonnie and Clyde both end up dead. That I don't like.

You worked mostly with Richard Harmon and Isaiah Washington in seasons two and three. What other actors of the series would you like to work with more ?

Some of the awesome women on this show! Whether they ended up as friends or at the end of a knife, I'd love every second of it. Emori needs some more women in her life. I bet she's never had female friends.

What is your favorite scene you have filmed so far in the series ?

One that's coming up this season, and I can't tell you about it yet !

Let's talk about Channel Zero: Candle Cove, your latest series. It was broadcast in the United States and Canada but did not arrive in France. Can you tell us a bit about Amy Welch, the young woman you play ?

She's a small town sheriff's deputy who's content with her job, and a lot more capable than she knows. But she finds out soon enough when some seriously ominous events start to happen in her hometown.

If you had to choose to live in The 100 universe or the Channel Zero universe, which would you choose ?

Honestly, they're both terrifying. Don't make me choose.

Any upcoming projects you can talk about ?

The 100 which airs February 1st, 2017! We're still busy shooting. Once we're done here I can get the dirt out from under my nails and think about the next project.

You will appear at your first convention in January 2017 in Vancouver, then you will participate in the Luxembourg and Paris conventions in March before going to England in April. Are you ready and excited to meet your European fans ?

Yes, I've had barely any live experiences with the fans so I'm looking forward to it.

In several interviews, you talk about your love for the reading. What is the last book you read ?

The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. I love it, it's a masterpiece.

On Twitter, you spoke about your love for the series True Blood. What other series do you love ? What is your favorite(s) genre ?

The ones that come to mind are the ones I'm in the middle of watching right now: Deadwood, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones. I love series that are set in another time or another world, or have a fantasy twist to them. I haven't started Westworld yet, but it's right up my alley.

And to finish, have you been to France before? And what would like to tell to your French fans ?

I've never been to France. I want to tell my French fans that this visit is special because it's a visit to the country of my roots ! One quarter of me is French, and I can't wait to see the wonderful country my grandmother is from. She left for Canada after WWII to marry my grandfather who was Canadian.

See you soon !
